My homelab has changed a bunch over the years, but currently (Feb 2025) it looks like the following:
- A raspberry pi running Pi-Hole for network-level ad-blocking
- A miniPC running Home Assistant for local home automation
- tailscale on all devices, primarily to use Pi-Hole for DNS while out of the house and also to access Home Assistant while out of the house
I’ve basically had these three components in various forms over time; previous iterations used non-FOSS home automation, different degrees of containerization, and a variety of VPN services.
